Personal bio

Dr. Quiana M. Shamsid-Deen, LMSW, DSW is a passionate social worker, educator, entrepreneur, and soon-to-be, children’s book author.

Born in Queens, New York, to Jamaican parents, she completed her education across the United States, culminating in a Doctorate of Social Work from the University of Southern California. For over 15 years, she has dedicated herself to various children and family organizations, bringing her expertise and compassion to communities in need with child welfare.

Currently an adjunct professor at Georgia State University, Dr. Shamsid-Deen is also a committed social entrepreneur. As the executive director of the Supreme Family Foundation, she focuses on delivering halal meals to seniors at risk of food insecurity. Alongside her husband, she ventures into the for-profit sector as a partner in a thriving restaurant franchise business. Her consultancy, NyaPearl Solutions, seeks to empower Black communities through education, advocacy, and economic strategies.

Despite her numerous professional achievements, it’s Dr. Shamsid-Deen’s personal journey that truly inspires her writing. After the loss of her first daughter, Nya Iman Shamsid-Deen, she found herself searching for a sense of purpose. This blog and business is born from that search.

Having contributed to publications like the Muslim Journal and influential research reports on social issues, Dr. Shamsid-Deen brings a deep sense of empathy and understanding to her writing and speaking opportunities. Her compelling narrative serves as both a testament to her resilience and advocating for the humanity of those disenfranchised to be seen, honored, heard and supported.
